A fine cased pair of 28-bore Irish flintlock duelling pistols By Thomas Fowler, Capel Street, Dublin, circa 1800 With browned twist octagonal sighted barrels, case-hardened patent breeches each with gold line, gold-lined maker's stamp, and gold-lined touch-hole, engraved case-hardened tangs incorporating the back-sight, signed engraved detented case-hardened locks each with roller and gold-lined rainproof pan, figured walnut half-stocks, chequered butts, silver escutcheons engraved with owner's crest and initials, engraved blued iron spur trigger-guards each with pineapple finial, blued set triggers, engraved silver pommels and fore-end caps, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, original ramrods each with iron powder-measure, and nearly all their original finish: in original lined and fitted mahogany case with accessories, the lid with flush-fitting carrying handle, the interior with illustrated trade label advertising 'Duelling Pistols Engaged to hit Point Blank at a proper Distance' 16¼in. (41.2cm.)
