A fine Aster gauge 1 live steam spirit fired model of a SNCF Chapelon Nord 231, 4-6-2 tender locomotive, the four cylinder compound locomotive having fine detailing to include polished bright-work motion, Walschaerts valve gear linkage with screw reverser, exposed polished copper pipework, dome, chimney, smoke deflectors with fitted handrails and associated steps, locomotive lamps and detailed smoke box door. The eight-wheel double bogie tender with decorative coal compartment, sprung chassis, tool box, rear ladder, safety railing and fitted steps. The model finished in traditional brown lined livery with fitted handrails, steps, buffers and couplings. Overall length 72.5cm. * During the early 1930s the French Nord Railway ran evaluation tests on the running qualities of their 3rd series of Super Pacific's against the Pacific type locomotives from the Paris Orlean (PO) Railway. The PO Pacific's showed themselves to be superior engines and Nord placed an order for twenty locomotives with slight modifications to be made for the NORD Railway. In 1935/36 NORD placed an additional order with two private companies, Ateliers de Construction du NORD de la France A.N.F. Blanc Misseron to built the locomotives and Societe des Usines et Foundries de Baume et Marpent to built the tenders, the Aster locomotive No.3.1192 represents part of the first eight locomotives developed in 1936 (numbered 3.1191 - 3.1198). These locomotives are known as "Chapelon's NORD" to enthusiasts throughout the world and are regarded as masterpieces of locomotive design. The prototype of this Aster model is preserved at the French National Railway Museum in Mulhouse. Boiler History: No boiler history available.
