A FACTORY ENGRAVED .31 'MODEL 1849' FIVE-SHOT SINGLE-ACTION PERCUSSION REVOLVER SAML. COLT, SERIAL NO. 96963/. FOR CIRCA 1854 With octagonal sighted barrel with 'SAML. COLT' script signature and retaining traces of original blued finish, cylinder with stage coach scene, frame with hand engraved 'COLTS PATENT' and retaining some original faded case-hardened finish, brass grip-strap and trigger-guard each retaining much original silvered finish, well figured one-piece walnut grips, and matching numbers with the exception of the wedge, the principle numbers with a dot, the barrel, frame, grip-strap, trigger-guard and loading-lever lug each with Gustave Young style scroll engraving against a stippled ground, that on the left side of the barrel-lug inhabited by a leopard's head, the hammer engraved with wolf's head 5in (12.7cm) barrel
