Beschreibung:

Smith & Wesson 1st Model double action revolver with factory letter. Often referenced as the "Double Action Frontier", being made 1880-1913, with this example being shipped to "M.W.Robinson Co. New York, NY" in 1883. The factory letter also confirms the barrel length (6") and the finish (nickel). Barrel rib reads "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A. PAT'D JAN 17 & 24 65. JULY 11 65. AUG.24 69. JULY 25 71. DEC. 2 79 MAY 11 & 25 1880". Serials on the butt and cylinder are matching. Round barrel with full rib and half-moon front sight. Nickel finish looking to have been touched up in places. Hammer and trigger are case hardened. This gun is interesting, as it has two styles of engraving. The frame has fine factory scroll engraving, while the barrel assembly has a punch style engraving, similar to that found on early Merwin Hulbert guns. The consignor states this gun was a sales sample that was shown to potential retailers of the different types of engraving available on Smith and Wesson revolvers. Cylinder is correctly 1 - 7/16" long. Period correct pearl grips. Inside of the right panel is faintly numbered "7624". Attributed to the Tommy Rhodes collection. CONDITION: Metal retains 80% of its finish, with some finish wear on the barrel, cylinder, and grip straps. Trigger and hammer have lost their case color finish. Grips are excellent with a few minor scratches. Bore is strong overall, with a few minor pits near the muzzle. Rifling remains crisp. Hammer and cylinder are tight. Timing and lockup are fine. Mechanically fine.
