A Dutch silver water-kettle, cover, stand, and burner Mark of Arnoldus van Essen, Groningen, 1744/45; the burner with the mark of Lucas van Giffen II, Groningen, 1778/79 Of hexagonal pear shape, the upper half chased with foliage and shells, lozenges, lambrequins and tassels, the decoration thrice repeated, with similar motifs on the cover and around the stem of the spout, the body crowned with a hexagonal finial of baluster shape, hinged raffia-bound overhead handle incorporating volutes and acanthus leaves, cast domed cover hinged on the side, the kettle attached with hinge and pin to conforming stand with openwork foliage and lozenges, on shell, scroll and acanthus supports, marked on base and on base of burner 28.6 cm. high 2348 gr.
