A Dutch Delft blue and white square armorial chinoiserie tulipière section 1691-1705, marked with a star above WB and 7 for Dirck Witsenburgh at De Witte Starre The square lower part painted with the monogram WM within a laurel wreath possibly for William and Mary, the other side with the coat of arms of the Creagh family (resident in Ireland) surmounted by a helmet and a horse's head and flanked by mantling, above the inscription VIRTUTE ET NUMINE (by Virtue and Prudence), the other two sides with chinoiserie scenes of a tea table and an Oriental garden with various animals, between relief moulded friezes of stylised foliage motifs, on four square bulging feet, the upper part raised on four scroll feet upon the lower part with a grotesque male figure on each side, with conical section painted with lappets and the corners moulded in relief with nozzles issuing from grotesque masks, flanked by putti holding branches and fruit-filled baskets, fitted for electricity (damages) 41 cm. high See illustration
