A DUTCH COLONIAL COQUILLA NUT STANDING BOX, intricately carved overall, the rectangular top and handle with six scenes from the life of Christ: the Nativity, the Flight into Egypt, Pontius Pilate washing his hands, Christ on the road to Calvary, the Deposition and Christ appearing to the Apostles, the hinged lid opening to reveal three compartments, the central section with a hinged lid engraved with a geometric border and a basket of flowers, all on a carved central shaft and four supporting dolphins, the square base with winged cherubs on three sides and a shallow drawer on the fourth, inscribed P.STATION D.STATION, (minor restorations), 18th Century 5¾in. (14.6cm.) high
