The first circa 1845-50; the second circa 1835-40 The first with sighted shot barrels stamped with maker's initials beneath, platinum plugs, engraved breech tang, signed locks finely engraved scrolls and differing game vignettes, figured walnut half-stock, chequered fore-end and pistol-grip (worn), engraved with steel mounts en suite with the locks (trigger-plate finial pitted), including circular patch-box cover decorated with a stag, original ramrod, and two vacant silver escutcheons, Birmingham Proof; and the second with rebrowned twist barrels signed on the rib, engraved breech tang, signed engraved back-action lock, figured walnut half-stock, chequered grip (refreshed) engraved steel mounts, and ramrod (the breeches pitted, the fore-end partly replaced on one side) 27in.
