A COPPER BRONZE FIGURE OF TSONGKHAPA Catalog Number: AB0319-0032 Copper bronze Tibet, late 19th century Tsongkhapa is considered the great reformer who lived until 1419 and founded many monasteries, among which is the famous Galden monastery, in which he also died. Tsongkhapa is considered an incarnation of the bodhisattva Manjushri, who is the patron saint of scholars. Tsongkhapa is depicted here in copper bronze with a fine patina and sitting on a lotus pedestal in vajrasana and wearing the pointed cap of a scholar while his hands form the gesture of dharmacakra, the wheel of Dharma. Fine, youthful and dignified facial features. Dimensions: HEIGHT 8.5 CM Condition: Very good condition with a fine patina Provenance: German private collection
