Contemporary Kentucky-style percussion rifle made with a mixture of modern and old parts by an unknown maker. Full octagon .36 caliber rifled barrel with rifle-style sights and plugged rear dovetail for moving rear sight. Unmarked percussion lock with double set trigger control and football-style backplate. Full curly maple stock with brass hardware including 4-piece engraved patchbox which looks to be from an older period and is similar to ones used by Metzgar from Lancaster, Pennsylvania then later Maryland. Stock has extremely well done raised floral pattern carving behind and in front of cheek. Stock has 3 German silver inlays and is very nicely built with nice lines. CONDITION: Metal has aged look with brass having a dark patina. Wood is dark in appearance giving the gun an aged look. Excellent bright bore with crisp mechanics. Would make an excellent squirrel rifle.
