A COMPOSITE GERMAN FLUTED CLOSE HELMET
PARTLY CIRCA 1520-30, THE REMAINDER 19 T H CENTURY
A COMPOSITE GERMAN FLUTED CLOSE HELMET Partly circa 1520-30, the remainder 19 t h Century With broad skull of one-piece construction rising to a cabled comb, embossed with two pairs of shallow flutes arranged in groups of three fanning from the rear on both sides, and pierced with a single pair of lace holes left and right, visor of 'dog-faced' form with centrally divided strongly flanged sights, embossed snout pierced with small rectangular breathes left and right, bevor formed with a prominent chin and flanged outwards at the base, rear neck-guard of three articulated lames, and with the pivots, lifting-peg, spring closures and lining rivets all replaced (the lower neck lame with internal patched repair). 10¼ i n (26cm)
