Adams Place: Marysville [i.e. San Francisco] Publisher: Published by R.A Eddy Book & Stationer Date: 1851 Description: Lithographed map. Lithographed by Justh & Co., San Francisco. 54.5x41.5 cm (21¾x16¼"). Very rare and quite detailed map of the northern mining districts, with a small view of downtown Marysville at lower right. Carl Wheat, in Maps of the California Gold Region, lists it under Eddy, noting that "R.A. Eddy was the pioneer stationer and book dealer in Marysville, his establishment being located on the north side of First Street, between D and High streets. His map is an important document. For the first time the rapidly expanding 'northern diggins' were accorded adequate cartographical expression, and numerous place names made their first appearance upon Eddy's well-constructed map." This is the Norris-Streeter copy. Warren Heckrotte notes that it was called "exceedingly rare" in John Howell-Books' catalogue 42, 1972, and "sat in the store" until Mr. Heckrotte purchased it in 1983. OCLC/WorldCat lists only three copies, at the University of California Berkeley, Yale University, and the California State University Chico.
