Colt 1878 Frontier Six Shooter double action revolver. Made 1887. Top of the barrel is marked "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". Etched "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" on the left side of the barrel. Top left of the trigger guard is marked "44 CAL". Round barrel with blade front sight and v-notch rear. Factory blued finish with the sides of the hammer having been polished. Lanyard stud and ring present on the butt. Factory checkered hard rubber grips. Factory letter indicates shipment as a blue 5 - 1/2" .44-40 to Colt's Patent Firearms Co., London Agency, London, England, in a shipment of 5 sent February 14th, 1887. CONDITION: Metal retains 70% of its original finish with general wear. There is some brown patina forming as well. The Frontier Six Shooter marking may have been re-etched. Grips have some light wear and scratches. Bore is lightly frosted, but does retain strong rifling. Tight hammer. Cylinder has some side-to-side movement. Gun is still in time and mechanically operable.
