Each four inch square 3 1/4 inch slide is made of two thin pieces of glass on which photographic images were made, hand-tinted, and then sandwiched together. In the days of silent films and into the "talkie" era, these slides were projected onto movie screens to announce upcoming attractions. The collection includes many famous names including John Barrymore, W.C. Fields, Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and Gloria Swanson.
