A collection of 1969 Formula VEE racing trophies awarded to Fred Saunders. Comprising first place trophies from Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Cadwell Park, Lydden Hill, as well as second place trophies from Mallory Park, Lydden Hill and third place from Castle Combe plus others together with a photograph of Fred behind the wheel 40cm high x 50cm wide framed and glazed. Fred Saunders raced for his own team Mermaid Racing in the 1960s-1970s.He raced Formula VEE and 5000, as well as motorcycles. His main success came in 1969 driving a Crossle F15 with a Rover engine, Saunders won joint Champion of British Formula VEE for that season alongside Steve Matchett, with wins at Silverstone and Brands Hatch being particular highlights. In 1970 Fred stepped up to British and European Formula 5000 racing and took part in the Gold Cup at Oulton Park that year racing alongside Jackie Stewart, John Surtees, Jochan Rindt and Graham Hill. The 1970 season saw him finish 14th in the Championship with a highest finish of 5th at Brands Hatch. Fred continued until 1972 before selling the car to go deep sea diving. The car was raced by a number of racers through to the present day where it is being restored in Germany.
