A collection of 18th Century and later ephemera of railway interest, including: Report on the Line of Inland Navigation from The City of Durham to The River Tyne, by R. Dodd, 1796; a selection of 19th Century letters from the Caledonian Railway solicitor's office; Bradshaw's New Railway Map of Great Britian and Ireland, 1857; manuscripts relating to the Perth and Inverness railway; and other items; together with a selection of 19th Century documents relating to the Post Office; a selection of early 19th Century manuscripts relating to Magdalene Bridge and Musselburgh; and a selection of other 19th Century manuscripts, correspondence, and ephemera. Provenance - PROVENANCE: From the collection of Eric Lomax 'The Railway Man' of Berwick. Eric was an avid collector from an early age and passionate about steam trains and technology, collecting books, documents, photos, and ephemera throughout his life. He, and his much-loved wife Patti, featured in the blockbuster film, ‘The Railway Man’, and were played by Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman. It tells the true story of Eric, who, whilst serving as British army officer in World War II, was captured and subsequently tortured by the Japanese in a Burma labour camp. After the war, he suffered years of mental turmoil, but was eventually rescued from his torment through the love of Patti.
