A Christian Dior London 'Édith' ballgown, 'Tulip' line, Spring-Summer 1953. labelled and with Marshall & Snelgrove, Leeds label; of dove-grey silk organza, embroidered to front with stylised flower-heads in twisted ivory threads and faceted paste stones, the bodice with integral corset, skirt with layered tulle petticoat, bust approx 34in, waist 25in; together with matching original stole (3) This is stylistically identical to the couture version of 'Édith', an example of which was exhibited in Dior's record-breaking 70th anniversary exhibition, 'Dior: Designer of Dreams', held at Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (05.07.17-07.01-18). A pink version of the model is held in the Dior Heritage collection, and can be seen photographed in 'Dior: Christian Dior' by Olivier Saillard and published by Assouline, p.285. Fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier shot the same gown, worn by a model, for 'Dior Couture', which was exhibited at the Multimedia Art Museum in Moscow, Russia (07.03.13-03.04.13).
