A Chinese red lacquered and gilt canopy bed Late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) The pierced apron above the central opening joining the two frontal panels, each with openwork ruyi -design frame inset with an octagonal reverse glass painting depicting a figure scene, between variously shaped rectangular panels carved in relief with further scenes, smaller cartouches pierced and carved with various floral motifs, the top surmounted by a protruding frieze with pendent lattice knobs, the sides with plain panelling below two framed openings, the interior carved with panels of phoenix and double Shou characters, the base carved at the front with Buddhistic lions (some loss and damage) 254cm. high x 205cm. wide x 124.5cm. deep
