A Charles II walnut, kingwood and laburnum oyster-veneered, ebonised and parquetry inlaid striking longcase clock of month duration Thomas Tompion London. Circa 1680/85 The case now with forward-sliding hood with cushion moulding to the cornice and spiral-twist columns, with conforming pilasters to the rear, the front door within moulded frame and with parquetry inlays within ebony line inlays, lenticle glass, the sides oyster-veneered, with matching inlays to plinth panel, raised on later bun feet, the 10 1/8 in. square brass dial with engraved border interrupted at the lower edge with a signature within rectangular reserve for Tho: Tompion London Fecit , the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with sword-hilt half hour markers, matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring and date aperture, original blued steel hands, the fully-latched movement with six ringed pillars, anchor escapement, bolt-and-shutter maintaining power, with high position countwheel for strike on later bell, with movement securing bracket; replaced seatboard, lacking backboard bracket, the case with restorations and possibly associated to movement; two replaced brass weights, replaced pendulum, crank key, case key 76¾ in. (195 cm.) high
