CIRCA 1830-35
A CASED 20-BORE D.B. PERCUSSION SHOTGUN SIGNED H.W. MORTIMER, LONDON circa 1830-35 With sighted twist barrels signed on the rib, engraved over the breech and inlaid with platinum lines and plugs, the breech tang engraved with scrollwork on a contrasting matted ground, signed detented locks engraved with scrolls and dentil borders, the lock-plates each extending upwards over the flanks of the breech tang, figured walnut half-stock, chequered grip, steel mounts engraved en suite with the locks, silver escutcheon, and wooden ramrod, London proof marks (the mounts with small patches of rust, ramrod-pipe detached, the ramrod tip and one sling-swivel missing): in original lined and fitted mahogany case bound with four iron bands (a working addition), the lid with brass circular flush-fitting handle and escutcheon (the lid cracked, the joints weakened), with original shot-flask. 32 i n (81.3cm) barrels
