A Carved Opal, Smoky Quartz, Tourmaline and 18 Karat Gold Parrot, Erwin Klein for Vacheron Constantin, Circa 1980, Idar-Oberstein, Germany, carved from a single section of opal rough, the natural transition from potch opal to play-of-color cleverly utilized to lend strong blue and green color flash to the wings, head and tail, while the breast shows subtle purple flashes, the beak of gem green tourmaline, the eyes inset with gold bezel set cabochon cut rubies, the feet and textured perch of gold, the base of onyx rimmed with gold accents. Stamp: ERWIN KLEIN. 12.70 x 6.35 x 5.08 cm. Estimate $ 3,000-5,000 Property from the Estate of Gerard L. Cafesjian, Naples, Florida NOTE: Base of one leg where the stone meets the gold foot has a previous repair, gold foot is slightly loose and repair could be improved to adjust position of bird. Non-phenomenal area of shoulder on one side is NOT damage, just a patch of potch opal and solid to the piece.
