Beschreibung:

Smooth bore percussion muzzleloading carbine with bayonet bar mounted near muzzle. Blued round, wedge retained barrel with Birmingham commercial proofs. Unmarked color casehardened lock with boarder line engraving. Fixed rear sight, musket style front sight, captive swivel ramrod. Brass furniture includes buttplate, skeletonized pistol-gripped trigger guard, nose cap and ramrod pipe. 1 piece, straight-gripped walnut stock with checkered wrist. Accompanied by a typical British Constabulary pattern brass handled saber bayonet based upon the Brunswick Rifle bayonet. This pattern of bayonet also saw use on some patterns of Irish Constabulary carbines during the mid-19th century. Bayonet measures 21 - 3/8” in overall length with a 17” semi-wasp waisted double-edged blade with a 7 - 1/2” central fuller, followed by a prominent median ridge. Ribbed grip with 3 - 1/2” guard, apparently original leather washer in place at blade to guard junction. Correct brass mounted leather scabbard accompanies the bayonet. CONDITION: Very good. Metal with an evenly oxidized plum brown patina with traces of blue. Lock a thicker brown patina. Mechanically functional, good bore with some oxidation and a thick layer of Cosmoline for protection. Stock solid and full-length with some added finish and a chip of wood missing from the toe. Otherwise wood shows scattered bumps, dings and mars. Most of the gun with an old thin coat of Cosmoline over much of the gun. Bayonet good to very good with a dull bronze patina on the hilt with pewter gray patina on the blade, which shows some scattered surface oxidation. Scabbard good with flaked finish loss and crazing, loose throat mount and secure drag. Leather body with stitching intact in rear seam and some weakness in the center of the body.
