A boxwood tonkotsu (tobacco box) with an owl By Jack Coutu (1924-2017), English, carved March 1995 (no.247), circa 1974 (no.36), and March 1986 (no.112) The tonkotsu inlaid in stag-antler with an owl perched on a branch, its eyes inlaid with pale horn, an inlaid silver moth in flight on the reverse, signed JC; the netsuke of stained boxwood and bone, depicting an owl about to take flight from a poppy seed, the eyes inlaid in silver, signed JC; the ojime of stained boxwood, depicting a bat, the eyes inlaid in gold, signed JC; with the artist's reference cards for the tonkotsu and ojime.
