A Black-Lacquer Suit of Armor** Edo period (18th-19th century) Comprising a twenty-four plate iron suji bachi helmet with a five-stage gilt-metal chrysanthemum tehen kanamono on the top, the turnbacks decorated with gold-lacquer family crests, the bowl fitted with a four-lame solid-plate neck guard laced in orange, blue and white, the forecrest a gold-lacquer fan and the kuwagata gilt-copper; the facemask lacquered black with an applied animal-hair moustache, the mask fitted with a four-lame solid-plate throat guard; the cuirass a two-plate yokohagi okegawa do (cuirass constructed of horizontal plates) with the top section lacquered russet-brown and laced in green, orange and white, the cuirass fitted with seven sections of five-lame tassets, the lowest one laced in orange; sleeves of chain mail and iron splints on the forearms; raft-style thigh guards and splint-style shin guards; with lacquer powder cases and deer-skin bag of lead shot; two wood storage boxes
