Extra-Illustrated Copy, with: an original drawing by Dibdin himself (vol. 3); 30 original drawings by George Lewis of his illustrations for the work; 146 proofs of plates and illustrations for the work (often including two or more for the same illustration at various stages of the engraving); and 377 additional engraved or lithographed illustrations (including the sixty plates for Lewis’s Series of Groups illustrating the Physiognomy, Manners, and Character of the People of France and Germany, 1823, many in two states; engraved plates from Dawson Turner’s Tour in Normandy, 1820; engraved views by Batty, and lithographs after Thomas Shotter Boys and others). 29.5x18.5 cm. (11x7¼"), 19th century full green morocco elaborately tooled in gilt, all edges gilt. First Edition, Large Paper Copy. The ultimate extra-illustrated set of Dibdin's books, regrettably subjected to wear over the years. Lot Amendments Condition: A cover detached, some other joints splitting, several repaired; occasional dampstaining to contents and a few of the covers; just good, but nonetheless a significant historical artifact.
