A baroque silver and gilt-brass quarter striking and repeating travel clock with alarm, Johann Schmidtbaur, Bamburg, circa 1740 2¾-inch champlevé dial with central alarm disc, subsidiary schlagt/S Nicht dial in the arch, the surround repouseé with scrolls, caryatids and mask, the two train fusee movement with verge escapement, the plain three-arm balance mounted on the backplate beneath a decoratively pierced and engraved bridge cock, quarter striking and repeating on a bell, together with the alarm, signed on the backplate Johann Schmidtbaur, Bamberg, the case with suspension loop, glazed side panels and engraved with trellis, on gilt scroll feet; in the original fitted leather case with carrying handle 18cm. 7in. high
