Sharps Model 1863 saddle ring percussion carbine converted into a .45 caliber centerfire with R.L. Moore letter attributing gun to Walter Cooper, Bozeman, Montana circa 1872. Gun has blued 30" octagonal barrel that measures 1 - 1/4" across muzzle from flat to flat. Barrel has sheared German silver blade front sight with "R.S. Lawrence" marked graduated flip sight with Rocky Mountain style notch rear sight. Barrel is unmarked except under forearm is stamped "17". Case hardened converted percussion action serial numbered "C40894" with "C.SHARPS PAT SEPT 12TH 1848" on left side of action along with ground saddle ring stud. Lock has been ground and filled in primer slot and is marked "C.SHARPS PAT OCT 5TH 1852" with single trigger control. Walnut stock with filled saddle ring bar slot and checkered over with steel buttplate. Walter Cooper style walnut 2-screw plain forearm with pewter nosecap and is stamped "17" in barrel channel. Comes with R.L. research letter. CONDITION: 60% fading original blue with 50% original fading case colors. Wood has traces of original finish with usage marks and dings. Excellent bore and mechanics.
