Damascus twist barrels with tapered slightly concave game rib with bead front sight, signed in rib "Alex Thomson Edinburgh". Hooked patent breeches with platinum blowout plugs. Bottom of barrels with Birmingham proof marks consisting of "(Crown) / (Crossed Scepters) / V" and "(Crown) / (Crossed Scepters) / B C P", serial number, and truing strike. Bottom of patent breeches also with serial number. Brass tipped dark wood ramrod retained by two reinforced ferrules. Reinforced ferrule mouth with acanthus and floral engraved pineapple finial. Barrels retained on stock by single key. Attractive fish form hammers engraved with the motif of fish. Back action locks engraved with "A. Thomson" and vignettes of pheasants in a meadow on left and woodcock on right. Long tangs at top and bottom of English style straight stock engraved en suite. Buttplate with long tang engraved en suite, screws and screwholes decorated with florals. Wrist checked in a flowing wave at front and terminating in a single point. Case in an old wood case lined in green baize with a small trade label in lid with load of 13 drams of shot and 4 drams of powder, and what looks to be the price paid at 8 shilling 10 pence. Accessories comprise a three piece cleaning rod with mop and wire brush, leather powder flask embossed with a hunter on horse with dog, a leather shot flask decorated en suite and full of shot, nipple wrench, bifurcated flask, and wadcutter marked for 11 bore. Brass split ring in lid. CONDITION: Good. Barrels with even peppering throughout with a few darker areas of patination, engraving still crisp, although somehwat softened in a few areas. Action is very goood with crisp engraving. Wood excellent with marks throughout from handling and operation, one chip at top of left side lock and some chipping at forearm. Action is crisp, bores are excellent, bright and shiny. Accessories are very good with some age related spotting and signs of use. Case is very good, en suite with accessories.
