A nice flintlock blunderbuss by Southall. The octagonal to round barrel with flared muzzle. Bayonet missing. Bolted lock with push-on safety and swan neck cock signed Southall. Sparse engraving. Roller bearing frizzen. All lock parts appear to be original. Brass furniture comprising ramrod pipes, trigger guard with pineapple finial and buttplate nicely engraved. Figured walnut full stock finely checkered at wrist. CONDITION: Barrel is stained but not worn. Lock with deep even age patina and minor corrosion. Functions as it should. Brass mounts are uncleaned. Stock is full dimension, with minor wear to well-cut checkering and a possible later coat of varnish. One hairline split forward of lock plate. Ramrod in two pieces, one piece likely stuck inside ramrod channel. A good-looking flintlock blunderbuss of the first part of the 19th century.
