A 19th-Century lacquered-brass compound monocular microscope, signed on the Y-shaped foot C. Collins 157 G t Portland S t London , the body-tube with rack and pinion focusing and micrometer fine adjustment, aperture adjustor and nicol prism, with mechanical stage, substage condensor holder ( no condensor ) adjustable by rack and pinion motion, and swinging substage plano-concave mirror, with various objectives including one each by Collins, Cooke, Pillischer and Watson, and other items, in the original fitted mahogany case with carrying handle and key -- 18in. (45.7cm.) high ; with a lacquered-brass Ross-pattern binbocular microscope body-tube, a circular stage attachment and small accessory box including a graduated prism attachment; and approximately 340 amateur slide preparations, some with labels by Ross, one a microphotograph of Napoleon III by A (ndrew) R (oss), contained in one card box, two pine boxes with trays and folding front, and 13 mahogany trays, labelled and with ivory pulls See Colour Illustration (6)
