Nice specimen.
Eight rare works in one vol. It is a collection of writings reunited in the sixteenth century, certainly in anti-Protestant function. The work of Cardinal De Vio, in fact, it is expressly directed against the heresy of Luther: the six works of St. Augustine and Prosper Opuscula relate to issues such as Grace, Free Will and Predestination that were the most important reasons of theological conflict between Catholics and Protestants. Beautiful Venetian editions of Giovanni Padovano and Venturino Ruffinelli, who often printed for Bernardino Stagnino: all the title pages shows, in the upper of woodcut border, the little printer?s mark that represents a phoenix in flames; Sant?Augustine?s works are orned also by a full page printer?s mark on verso of the last leaf.
