("poezie album") scraps, contemp. cl. w. red leather catch on frontcover. = The poezie album of Leni Duyzend (1928-2019) with 7 contributions by classmates of ANNE FRANK (incl. the introductory contribution by Leni herself) at the Joods Lyceum in Amsterdam. All these classmates are mentioned several times by Anne Frank in Het Achterhuis. Compiled mainly in the Spring of 1942, just weeks before the first classmates started to dissapear, some went into hiding and some were deported to the concentration camps in Eastern Europe. The poems are joyous and typically edifying of the sort that was often written in "poezie albums", exhorting the owner to do her best and be diligent at work. Leni Duyzend survived the war by going into hiding with part of her family in 1943. She married Herman Löwenberg, both stayed at the same hiding adress in Elburg with the family Van Leyen. After the war she finished high school and became a general practitioner. She introduces herself in the album with a 7-line verse, not dated but before June 1st 1939. Contributions by the following classmates in chronological order of entry in the album: 1. Marie Elisabeth 'Miep' Lobatto (b.1929) wrote a 4-line verse on "1 Juni 1939" and signed "Je schoolvriendinnetje Miep Lobatto". She co-wrote the book Absent. Herinneringen aan het Joods Lyceum Amsterdam, 1941-1943 with D. Hondius (Amst., 2001). Miep survived the war as she went into hiding in the Netherlands; 2. Nannette "Nan" Blitz (b.1929) wrote a 5-line verse on "5 Maart 1942" advising Leni to think of others and stay "tevree" (content). She and her family were transported to Westerbork 1943 and the following year to the exchange camp Bergen-Belsen where she was reunited with Anne and Anne's sister Margot. Nanny was the sole survivor of her family. She founded the Anne Frank school in Brazil and wrote a memoir which was published in 2015; 3. Jacqueline van Maarsen (b.1929) wrote an 8-line verse on "11 Maart 1942". She was Anne's best friend and wrote several books on Anne Frank; 4. Bertha "Betty" Louise Bloemendaal (1929-1942) wrote a 6-line verse on "13 Mrt. 1942", ending with "Eer ik jou vergeten zal". Anne writes in her diary on September 24th that she has heard that Betty had been transported to Poland. She was murdered in the concentration camp Auschwitz on the 1st of October 1942; 5. Hannah Elisabeth "Lies" Goslar (b.1928) wrote an 8-line verse on "19-3 '42" and included a tiny photogr. self-portrait. In 1943, Hannah and her family were arrested and sent to Westerbork and then eventually to Bergen-Belsen. Hannah was in a privileged section of the camp because her family had Palestine passports with them. Sometime between January-February 1945, Hannah was briefly reunited with Anne Frank, who was a less privileged prisoner imprisoned at the other side of the camp. Hannah and her sister were the only members of their family to survive the war. On January 6th 1944 Anne writes in her diary: "Toen verscheen Oma als beschermengel, daarna Lies, die mij nog het symbool van de ellende van al mijn vriendinnen en alle Joden toelijkt. Als ik voor haar bid, bid ik voor alle Joden en arme mensen samen." 6. Ilse Wagner (1929-1943) wrote a 6-line verse on "25 Maart 1942": "Lieve Leny, Wat zal ik schrijven op dit blad?
