70 5117 Anonymous 19th cent 70/5117 Anonymous (19th cent.). (Festive gathering in front of the Paviljoen in Haarlem, 1856). Drawing, pen and (washed) ink and watercolour, 18,6x27,1 cm. - Soiled; creased in lower corners; closed tear in upper part. = On the 16th of June, 1856 a statue of Laurens Jansz. Coster was unveiled on the Grote Markt in Haarlem. It was a part of a national celebration of the mythical person of Coster, who supposedly invented book printing. Another part of the program were celebrations in Haarlemmer Hout where a temporary monument was erected for the initiators of the national celebrations. The epitaph reads: "Uit Haarlems bloemhof ging het licht op over de aarde''. On verso the annotation: "Daarvan heeft oom een schilderij gemaakt".
