(Paris, François Regnault, 1536), CLIX,(4) lvs., printed in red and black on vellum, Latin and English text, 114 (of which 15 full-p.) woodcut ills., num. (historiated) initials, printer's vignette under colophon, modern calf w. use of contemp. mor. letterpiece, 4to. - Lacks 3 lvs. (XCVIII, CIII and CIV) and according to the index the preliminary quires "Kalendarium", "Tabula minutionum cum proprietatibus signorum" and "Distinctiones quatuor qualitatum ac complexionum"; first leaf (A r) w. large woodcut heavily soiled/ faded; new endpapers; fold. paper mounted on verso first free endpaper; upper margin cut short; occas. sl. soiled/ stained. = From the library of Firmin Didot "François Regnault, printer and bookseller in London and Paris, was the most important among the foreign producers of books for the English market. (...) In 1524 his large output began and continued unbroken until 1535 when two serious checks to his work occured, the suppression of many of the service books, and the act regulating the importation of foreign books. In 1536, finding his business seriously interfered with he wrote a letter to Cromwell." (A Century of the English Book Trade, 2011, p.133). On the mounted paper it is stated: "This book was Queen Marys (daughter to Henry 8th) & also 2. mary of modena's (wife to James 2d of England); bought for 2:13:00 by Wm Fleetwood (of a London Book-seller, who bought it at an auction), & presented to the Library of Eton College". In the lower borders of the large woodcuts the coats of arms of the Tudor family are incorporated. The woodcuts are occasionally monogrammed "PVL" (?) in lower left corner.
