He then planned to travel to Persia to re-establish trading relations between that country and France, but was prevented by the Turks from going any farther than the Bosphorus. Tobler notes that Des Hayes's account contains much original material of value which was copied by later writers. Des Hayes demonstrated an unusual understanding of the Turkish military and political organisation.
