.40 caliber, 28.5" octagonal barrels, both barrels stamped J.A. Strong. Lockplate stamped H. Elwell/Warranted in an oval. Brass hardware, trigger guard, buttplate and toe plate. Buckhorn rear sights and half-moon front sight. Barrel is fastened for two ramrods. One ramrod is a reproduction and the other is missing. Provenance: Property of the former First National Bank of Fremont, Indiana Condition: Barrels are a smooth brown with some grey showing through. An old sight dovetail cut through barrel markings on one barrel. Both rear ramrod ferrules on barrels have been replaced, evidenced by soldering around ferrules. Barrel swivel is mechanically fine. Back-action lock is grey-to-brown with evidence of light cleaning. Hammer, as well as hammer screw, are old replacements. Wood is in fine condition with light dents, mars and scratches. Brass hardware has been lightly cleaned, but has begun to repatinate. As typical in all swivel breeches, the barrels are slightly loose.
