Cotton, 57 x 84 in., with 35 stars, 34 of which are hand-sewn, double-appliqued cotton stars in a highly unusual scattered arrangement, with one hand-sewn, single-appliqued cotton star added to the bottom left corner of canton, indicating that this 35th star might have been added to what was originally a 34-star canton. Fly consists of 11 hand-sewn stripes. The cotton hoist includes what appears to be at least three small, crudely cut holes. A fine Civil War-period flag, created ca 1861-1865. Condition: Some light, scattered staining on flag; some small, scattered holes in flag; some tearing, particularly in the canton.
