33 gilt painted stars are configured in a wonderful symmetrical Great Star or Great Luminary configuration on both sides of a silk canton. Stripes are hand-sewn as is the entire flag. 5 silk ties along hoist, 2 blue, 2 gold, and 1 red. The other 3 edges are gold silk taped with fringe. Oregon was admitted into the Union as our 33rd state on February 14th, 1859. Although not square in overall dimensions, this appears to be a flag that saw military usage during the Civil War. Approximately 46.5 x 58.75". Found among the estate possessions, in Lewistown, PA, of the widow of Capt. Harvey Wishart, Co. B 126th Regt. PA Volunteers and Co. H 208th Regt. Condition: Some gilt pigment loss, areas of fabric fracturing with minimal loss along fly end last 2 stripes, scattered foxing in white stripes, several old repairs.
