THE MOTORCAR OFFERED
Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust resources confirm that the car was built on August 27, 1951 to standard open two seater specifications and although built in right hand drive form, it was destined for the USA market. Equipped with engine number W3131-8, the roadster was supplied through the East Coast distributor Hoffman of New York to Sport Car Inc of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania being dispatched by them on November 12, 1951, a mere week before the XK120 Fixed Head Coupe in this collection. As new, the car wore cream paintwork, with a biscuit and red interior and fawn top.
By 1970, the car was still in Pennsylvania, being owned by Kurt Rappold of Chester, PA. Research records a Mr. E. Kurt Rappold as having been a prominent member of the Delaware Valley Jaguar Club when he passed in 2018, it seems likely that this was the same gentleman and that he had clearly had a long association with the marque.
Thomas Hendricks purchased this 120 from Rappold in August 1971, and it has remained with him for the ensuing 51 years, being purchased by him when living in New Jersey and later moved to Maryland. It seems that a restoration was never attempted by Mr. Hendricks and it is not known when it was last run. As the car stands today it is a good solid example that would make a straightforward restoration project for its next owner.
