Description: 2x WW1 British Officers Identity Discs of Hussars Interest, consisting of an un-marked silver disc engraved “CAPT A F HOLDEN S NOTTS HUSSARS C of E”; silver (not hallmarked) disc engraved “LT P L B SHERBURN 18TH HUSSARS C OF E”. Both remain in good condition. (2 items) Captain Athole Frederick Holden was born on 1st March 1889. He served with the South Notts Hussars from 1914-19, was mentioned in despatches three times and awarded the Military Cross. Finally rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel; Philip Leslie Bailey Sherburn was the son of Sir John Sherburn of Brantingham Thorpe, Yorkshire. Educated at Harrow before graduating from RMA Sandhurst, commissioned into the 18th Hussars, served during the Great War (1915-18). Died 7th December 1930.
