THE PORSCHE 911 CARRERA 3.2
As is always the case with the many Porsche 911 series, the limited-edition variants are by far the most sought after by collectors. In the case of the Carrera 3.2, the first of these was the M491 option - officially called the 'Supersport' but commonly known as the 'Turbo Look'. Introduced in 1984, it was a style that resembled the Type 930 911 Turbo with its flared wheel arches, large rear wing, and deeper front spoiler. The M491 package also included the Turbo's stiffer suspension, superior brakes, and wider wheels.
THE MOTORCAR OFFERED
Completed at Porsche during January of 1987, this desirable Carrera 'M491' Cabriolet was sold new on September 2, 1987, via Auto Zipper of Beverly Hills, CA. The COA on file notes that the new Porsche was ordered with the desirable 'M491' Turbo look option and finished in special order color 'Summer Yellow' over a black leather interior. Further options included California emissions, power locks, sports seats, electric top and cruise control, while running the desirable Getrag G50 5-speed manual transaxle. The first owner is recorded to have kept the car in Beverly Hills, and the 'M505' Slant Nose upgrade seen on the car today is believed to have been carried out before taking delivery or during his ownership, executed with correct steel fenders. The first owner would keep the car until July of 1994, at which point the Summer Yellow Porsche migrated to Florida, where the second owner kept it until July of 1997. The third owner kept the car in Florida until June of 2005, at which point the car moved back West to Nevada, where the fourth owner kept the car until 2020, when acquired by the consignor. Many service records from authorized Southern California Porsche dealers and specialists can be found in the large history file accompanying the car, including about $6,000 spent in the last two years.
Just over 42,500 miles are recorded on the odometer today, and the car retains its original factory sports seats, black leather interior and matching numbers engine. The impressive history file contains the aforementioned service paperwork, CARFAX report, COA, and the original books and tools, air compressor, jack and factory tonneau cover is offered with the car. Finished in the rare, special order Summer Yellow exterior color and boasting the factory 'M491' option; this is indeed a very desirable air-cooled Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet.
