Présentée au salon de Genève en 1985, l'Autobianchi Y10 s'inscrit comme la remplaçante de la populaire A112. Sous le capot, deux cylindrées sont disponibles: 999 cm3 et 1049 cm3. C'est sur cette dernière version à carburateur double corps Weber qu'un turbocompresseur sera adapté pour obtenir la puissance de 85 chevaux à 5750 tr/min. Capable d'atteindre les 180 km/h et de passer de 0 à 100 en 9.5 secondes, l'Y10 Turbo est destinée à succéder à l'A112 Abarth. Au total, 13 190 exemplaires ont été produits. Parmi eux, trois feront l'objet d'une préparation Groupe N par l'importateur français de la marque: André Chardonnet, dont l'écurie a brillé quelques années plus tôt en championnat de France des rallyes avec la Lancia Stratos d'un certain Bernard Darniche. Le Team Chardonnet les engage au Rallye Monte-Carlo 1986, durant lequel l'une des Y10 sera détruite. Les deux restantes participent ensuite au Tour de Corse. Puis, une seule (immatriculée 9043 KD 93) sera alignée au Critérium des Cévennes avec l'équipage Pierre Pagani/Eric Escoffier (classé 50e). Les documents dont nous disposons (passeports techniques originaux FISA & FFSA, photos d'époque...) confirment qu'il s'agit du modèle présenté. Pilotée ensuite par Philippe Venot, à qui l'actuel propriétaire l'a rachetée, cette Y10 participera en 1989 au Rallye national des géants, au Rallye national de Dunkerque, au Rallye Sprint régional de Villeneuve d'Asq, et en 1991 au Rallye régional de Doulens. Cette Y10, l'une des trois utilisées par le Team Chardonnet en compétition, mérite d'être restaurée et remise dans sa configuration d'origine pour recouvrer son intérêt historique. Introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1985, the Autobianchi Y10 was the replacement for the popular A112. Under the bonnet, two engines were available, with a capacity of 999cc or 1049cc. It was to the latter version, with a twin-barrel Weber carburettor, that a turbocharger was fitted, to develop maximum power of 85bhp at 5750rpm. Able to reach a top speed of 112mph and to accelerate from 0-62mph in 9.5 seconds, the Y10 Turbo was the successor to the A112 Abarth. Altogether, 13,190 cars were built. Three of them were prepared for Group N by Autobianchi's French importer, André Chardonnet, whose team had enjoyed much success in the French Rally Championship a few years earlier, thanks to the Lancia Stratos driven by Bernard Darniche. Entered by Team Chardonnet in the 1986 Monte Carlo Rally, one of the Y10s was written off. The two remaining cars next took part in the Tour de Corse, then just one (with the registration number 9043 KD 93) competed in the Critérium des Cévennes, where the crew of Pierre Pagani and Eric Escoffier finished 50th. This Y10, one of the three used by Team Chardonnet in competition, deserves to be restored and returned to its original specification, and so regain its historical value.
