As the Ducati company moved away from its 1960’s production of ohc singles, well respected but essentially urban machines, it introduced a range of 90 degree v-twins with complex, bevel-drive ohc configuration. These proved to be race-winning engines and, more importantly for the company, considerable sellers. The 125 mph Darmah was introduced in 1978, following on from the touring 860 GTL, as an amalgam of the fabulous 900SS engine with new Bosch ignition and the Brembo-braked GTL cycle parts, to make a long-legged and sporting motor cycle. The Ducati’s motor alone was, and is, worth the money with its splendid combination of bass-baritone exhaust and a tenor counterpoint from all those complex components of well-oiled metal within moving together. Secret departures are impossible with a v-twin Ducati. This excellent black and gold, Campagnolo-wheeled example has been carefully used. It was the subject of a thorough rebuild in 2004, covering a low running-in mileage since, and has an MOT. With its V5C, and with its MOT certificates since 1989, it is said to be ready for immediate use.
