1965 BMW Isetta 300 Plus Registration Number: CBU 575C Chassis Number: 332341 Engine Number: 332341 CC: 298 Body Colour: Yellow Trim Colour: Black Statutory Off Road Notification, dated: 02/16/05 Milage (not warranted): 7479 With three accompanying photographs of this car, two with Sir Jimmy This three-wheeler was bought by Sir Jimmy in 1965 and registered to J. Savile Ltd, the original colour being yellow, a colour change to black registered on 5th January 1970. Sir Jimmy bought the car when he was a resident DJ at the New Elizabethan Ballroom, Belle Vue in Manchester and is complete with the rotating orange beacon on the roof that he fitted after being nearly flattened by a lorry that did not see him. For many years this vehicle was stored at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Buckinghamshire. Microcars (or bubble cars as they came to be known) were born of the need for cheap short-distance transportation in the post-war years. Arguably the most successful of the breed was the Isetta, whose origins lay with the Italian firm of Iso SpA (Isetta is Italian for `little Iso') who went on to build some 1,000 or so in Italy and others in Spain. Many more were built under licence in other countries and in Germany, where they were manufactured by BMW. BMW made the Isetta their own. This, the second BMW version, was introduced in 1956. The obvious difference was the increase in capacity from 250cc to 298cc, so raising the output from 12bhp to 13bhp. While the torque was improved, the top speed remained the same at 53mph. car has had a full body restoration by Lee Turnham, Isetta Owners Club registrar and resprayed to yellow, the original body colour. The chassis and mechanics are the original. It comes with a photocopy of the Footman James Vehicle Condition Form stating all the condition points to be A1, an old style log book as well as a V5 certificate. one occassion Sir Jimmy picked up the Duke of Edinburgh from Aylesbury railway station in this car. The Duke's comment is not recorded. : From the estate of Sir Jimmy Savile. OBE, KCSG, LLD (1926-2011) Condition report disclaimer
