Beschreibung:

1963 TRIUMPH TR4 Registration No. 618 FWT Chassis No. CT24669 Engine No. CT24887E Engine: four cylinder, overhead valve, 2,138cc, 100bhp at 4600rpm; Gearbox: four speed manual; Brakes: front, discs, rear, drums; Suspension: front, independent, coil springs, wishbones with dampers, live rear axle, semi-elliptic leaf springs. Right hand drive. The Triumph TR4 was much more than a re-styled TR3A, which it succeeded, as mechanical changes included rack and pinion steering, all synchromesh gearbox and now a standard 86mm x 92mm bored engine. This latter unit had previously been optional on the TR3A and it was, in fact, still possible to ask for a 1,991cc unit, although few customers did so. The most noticeable difference, of course, was now the Michelotti-styled body, made of pressed steel from the Triumph plant at Liverpool. Other improvements were the use of wind-up windows, whilst the boot area was increased in size. From the outset customer demand was strong and the car gave way to the TR4A in March 1965 when the all-new chassis layout was introduced for the model. This 1963 example, first road registered in August of that year, is a genuine right hand drive British car and was in the same ownership from 1969 until 1995 when ownership transferred to a family friend. In 1989 the owner undertook a £9,000 restoration which included removing the body from the chassis and then shot blasting, priming and painting the chassis before replacing all the running gear. At the same time the engine was stripped and cleaned and a new crankshaft, bearings, pistons and liners, timing chain, etc. were fitted. The bodywork was stripped to bare metal and inspected and any necessary repair work undertaken prior to re-skinning both doors, cleaning, priming and painting. A new wiring loom was fitted and the interior trimmed with new carpets, whilst new bumpers and over-riders were purchased. Understandably, the car is in superb-looking order now with fine white paintwork, matching white Surrey hard top and black seats with white piping and black trim. The car has steel wheels fitted, with new tyres and a new exhaust. The hood is new and unused and we are told that the car has travelled only a nominal 500 miles or so since the restoration. It was being MoT'd at the time of writing and should be ready for the road by sale day. This Triumph certainly appears to be a fine example of a popular British sportscar.
