1963 ASTON MARTIN DB4 SERIES V VANTAGE COACHWORK BY TOURING Chassis No. DB4/1184/L Engine No. 370/1199/SS Blue with red leather interior Engine: six cylinder, in-line, twin overhead camshaft, Special Series, triple SU HD8 carburetors, 3,670cc, 266bhp at 5,750rpm; Gearbox: four- speed manual; Suspension: front by unequal transverse wishbones and telescopic shock absorbers, coil springs, rear by coil springs with shock absorbers, live axle; Brakes: four wheel disc. Left hand drive. At its unveiling in 1958, the Aston Martin DB4 was met by the discerning London Motor Show attendees with avid enthusiasm. The car combined handsome styling with the newly designed Tadek Marek twin overhead camshaft 3.7 litre engine. The sleek body was crafted by Touring of Milan and utilized the Superleggera method of panel attachment, which provided for the lightweight body's union with the steel tube frame. Overall performance was impressive and the in-line six cylinder proved light enough to help the DB4 race to 60 mph in under ten seconds. The model evolved through five Series, with the final road cars lengthened to 15ft overall, thereby allowing for more interior leg room and boot space. An option was the Special Series engine with a 9:1 compression ratio and larger valves, offering a quoted 266bhp at 5,750rpm. An oil cooler became standard equipment. The interior featured a revised instrument layout and the cars were fitted with 15" wheels. Most of the Series five cars had covered headlamps so it is unusual to find an example such as this with flat headlamps. This lovely car is one of only 95 Vantage SS engined DB4s produced and, according to the factory particulars, it was first owned by E.M. Smith of Quebec, Canada. The Aston Martin was delivered in July 1963 with special series engine, oil cooler and chrome wheels, the latter fitted with Dunlop RS5 tires. At the time the car was black with red Connolly hide interior trim. More recently it was fully restored from 1990 to 1992 when it was part of a known Aston Martin collection. This major and comprehensive restoration amounted to $80,000 and included work to the body, interior, engine and chassis. The restoration was properly documented and completed and all correct materials were used throughout. There is supporting documentation available. Since the restoration it has traveled 6,000 miles and is described as being in superb mechanical and cosmetic condition. The Aston is offered with its original Owner's Instruction Book, spare keys and a copy of the original build sheet. This example is thoroughly recommended.
