Introduced in 1933, Norton’s single cylinder Model 50, alongside the twin port Model 55, was Norton’s first production overhead valve offering in the 350cc class. The original Sturmey-Archer gearbox was soon to be replaced by Norton’s own four-speed foot-change unit in 1935 and the sporting 350 single was continually updated during its production run which lasted until 1963. The AMC gearbox was adopted for 1956 along with improved electrics and the ‘Featherbed’ frame was introduced for 1959. This machine was restored about 15 years ago and is presented in Forest Green livery. Apart from a practical upgrade to 12 volt electrics, the machine is to original specification in all major respects. The registration certificate indicates just two former keepers and the present owner acquired the bike 14 years ago at the Stafford auction. Since then it has been carefully maintained in running order, always garaged and used sparingly on dry weather days only. It comes with a full record of MoTs during the present ownership, a Swansea registration document, current MoT certificate and licence.
