This Park Ward-bodied S1 Continental was acquired by the present owner seven years ago and since then has been kept garaged and used regularly. The vehicle’s accompanying history file contains the original logbook, recording Metal Products Co Ltd, of Willenhall as first owner and the Tube Frames company, of Walsall as the second. Originally registered ‘100 NRF’, the car was still resident in the West Midlands in 1976 when the logbook was last stamped. Also included in the file are two fascinating articles penned by previous owner John Coventry, one recounting the 1993 Claret & Classics rally in which the car (known affectionately as ‘Napoleon’) performed impeccably throughout the 1,500-mile journey. “He fully justified the sobriquet ‘Continental’, proving to be a fine long-distance tourer in the grand style. He was at his happiest cruising down the autoroute at 100mph - a true Grand Routier.” The other piece, Fond Memories, published in the August 2000 edition of Bentley Review, fondly recalls the delights of owning this imposing thoroughbred: “Last and so very far from least, however, was the sense of well-being, the feeling of superiority over other drivers in their mundane carriages, which he imparted every time I climbed behind the wheel. To sit in the opulent leather and wood clad interior, admiring the craftsmanship of everything around me, looking out over the seemingly endless bonnet to the winged ‘B’ while being wafted along in near silence at three-figure speeds, gave me the ultimate high…” While in present ownership the car has been maintained by Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists Royce Motors, of Betchworth, Surrey, being serviced twice yearly and benefiting from a gearbox overhaul undertaken by them in 1999 (invoices available). Finished in maroon with matching leather interior, it is presented in good condition throughout and offered with sundry invoices, road fund licence to April 2005, MoT to May 2005 and Swansea V5 registration document.
