Beschreibung:

Associated Motor Cycles were late in producing a twin-cylinder model to rival those of Triumph, BSA and Norton. When announced in 1948, the AJS Model 20 and equivalent Matchless G9, while following the established pattern of British parallel twins, were unusual in having an engine with a third, central, crankshaft main bearing. The new 498cc power unit was housed in the sprung frame recently introduced to the heavyweight singles line-up. Progressively developed, the motor underwent a number of capacity increases, finally arriving at 646cc in the autumn of 1958 with the launch of the AJS Model 31 and Matchless G12. Well-finished, stylish and deservedly popular despite lacking the performance image of certain rivals, the AMC twins were much missed after their demise in 1966. This AJS Model 31 has been in the vendor’s possession for the past five years and is offered with old/current Swansea V5 registration documents, expired MoT (June 2004), and expired road fund licence (May 2005). Careful re-commissioning and the customary safety checks are advised before returning it to the road.
