After the new Thunderbird 2-seater, the Fairlane Crown Victoria was the flagship in Ford’s 1955 lineup, unmistakable with its bright trim tiara that crowned the roof at the B-pillar. The Fairlane line replaced the old Crestline range and would continue in Ford’s lineup for 15 years. There were actually two Crown Victoria coupes, this one with the solid hardtop and the Skyliner, in which the front portion of the roof was colored Perspex. This had the effect of cooking the passengers on sunny days, but is now preferred by many collectors. This Crown Victoria was bought by the Lewis collection in 2000 and can be traced back to N.H. Waldrop in Marysville, Washington in 1990. It’s an older restoration, in desirable red and white, with a well-fitted red and white vinyl interior in the correct pattern. The paint is good, as is the chrome plating, though some of the complex trim is older and shows signs of use. The car is fitted with fender skirts, wire-wheel covers and the desirable rear-mounted spare tire continental kit. There’s a spotlight/mirror on the driver’s side. The car is powered by a 272 cubic-inch V8, with 3-speed and overdrive transmission and power steering, and while the engine compartment appears correct, it has been enthusiastically painted and could use detailing. The odometer indicates 52,993 miles and the condition of the car suggests this is correct. Without reserve
